How To Hear God’s Voice

By Kyla Daw | SHIFT TV

Did you know that you were created for greatness? You were created to bring heaven to earth through your connection with the Father. You were created to hear the voice of God.

Can you really hear God’s Voice?

We are designed to be dependant on God. Anything outside of that will eventually lead to malfunction. A big part

of that dependence is being able to hear him every day and for every situation.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

John 10:27-30

I remember when I was a brand new Christian I really wanted to hear God’s voice. I remember praying, “If I’m going to live this out and devote my life to it, I need to know that I can hear you.” I knew that if I didn’t know how to hear Him my faith would quickly fade. Living out of routine just wouldn’t cut it for me. And it won’t cut it for anyone. Even early in my walk with God, I knew how important it was to be connected with heaven.

I started to devour the Bible right away. Every chance I had, everywhere I went that book came with me (Bible apps weren’t around yet!) I would read it on my lunch break at work, as soon as I got up and before I went to bed. If I was going for a run or driving in my car, I would listen to teachings or music that would connect me with God. I wanted to grow and grow in my faith. I was addicted – and I still am. When I would ask God to teach me how to hear his voice, something really neat started to happen.

My home church has the same heart to follow the voice of God, to grow and have a strong foundation. When I would be in a church service the sermons would be on the exact scriptures that I would read that week or even that day! I would be in the middle of a worship service and different phrases would come to my mind and minutes later those phrases would be spoken from the worship leader. To be honest, it was sort of freaking me out!

I asked a mentor about this and she told me that this is one of the ways God will teach you his voice – very cool! I was connecting with heaven and there was nothing more exciting to me than this.

Here are some of the ways God speaks:

  1. Through His Word – The Bible Hebrews 4:1
  2. Visions – Acts 2:17, 2 Kings 6:14-17
  3. Dreams – Acts 2:17
  4. Mental Images – John 1:48
  5. Audible Voice – Mark 1:11, Acts 9:3-6
  6. Still Small Voice – 1 Kings 19:11-13

What about when the Bible doesn’t specifically speak to our situation?

God will agree with his word always. Speak to someone more mature in the Lord, who displays fruit of growth. Have them pray about the situation with you and for you. And be opened to what the answer might be – even if it’s not what you wanted to hear.

The most fulfilling place will always be where God places you.

So, What about us speaking to Him?

Did you know that the bible records many stories about how men and women prayed to God in a way that changed the course of history? Did you know that you can do that too? Whether it be in a personal situation, for your school or for your family. God wants to move on your behalf, and all you have to do is ask.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, teach me to learn your voice. I pray that every time I pick up your word it would come alive. Tune my ears into your frequency and tune out other distracting voices.

DECLARE IT

I declare over myself today that I am connected with heaven, that I hear my father’s voice and that I am victorious in Him. I declare that I am hidden under the shadow of the Almighty.
